The 2011 edition of CETEMPS’ International Summer School on Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (ISSAOS) will be held on 5th-9th September at Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso (LNGS) in Assergi (L’Aquila). The title of the course is “Terrestrial Atmosphere and Cosmic Rays” and it is a joint activity with the National Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN).
The purpose of the school is to explore the recent developments in the understanding of the cosmic rays – terrestrial atmosphere interactions. Lectures will be given on the following main topics:
- the use of the terrestrial atmosphere as a calorimeter for the detection of cosmic rays
- the ionization effects induced by cosmic rays and their effect on cloud formation and atmospheric chemistry
- cosmic rays fluxes and climate.
This joint CETEMPS-LNGS/INFN school aims at bringing together the "cosmic ray" and "atmospheric" communities, as well as students and scientist involved in the observation, characterization and modeling of cosmic ray-atmosphere interactions and their impacts.
In particular, the school could represents a unique opportunity to facilitate the communications and scientific exchanges among these different communities in order to enhance the coordination of specific scientific efforts and advocate for a common view of major scientific needs and priority areas for the future.
Further information will be updated soon on this web site. Looking forward to seeing you in L’Aquila,
